JECKYBENG x NOVESTA PAPER WORKS

We have once again teamed up with the renowned Slovakian shoe manufacturer Novesta to create a water-repellent and breathable handmade urban outdoor sneaker made from a water-repellent fabric that, for the first time, combines our cotton fiber expertise with a new, so-called paper fiber technology to achieve even greater abrasion resistance.
JECKYBENG hopes that this development will provide further knowledge about alternative natural resources, so that in the future it may even be able to develop yarns from waste paper. All cellulose products used are also FSC.

We are particularly proud that, together with Novesta, we have succeeded in sourcing all of our natural rubber from FSC-certified sources.

The sole of the URBAN OUTDOOR SNEAKER is made of 100% FSC-certified natural rubber, thus avoiding the unnecessary abrasion of microplastic particles. According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environment and Safety from 2018, the abrasion of shoe soles ranks seventh in terms of annual per capita emissions of microplastics - the abrasion of car tires remains the undisputed number one.

NOVESTA is committed to producing shoes according to the highest environmental standards. That is why they use natural rubber and 100% cotton and linen. These materials allow them to produce ecological shoes of the highest quality.

The natural rubber sole is pressed onto the shoe body by machine. The shoe is then finished with precision by skilled craftsmen. This ethnic and ecological process results in tire marks around the outsole - Novesta's trademark!

Great shoes

Very happy with the look and feel. I used the size guide on Novesta website and the fit is good. Surprisingly grippy on wet pavement too. Highly recommend.

Made for me

Hello everyone. Absolutely happy with the shoe. I've worn it for a long time now, it's also very robust. At the beginning the insole was pressing, but after two days this went away.

Not my favorite shoe

The shoes are a bit too big/long for me, the width is right, but I only noticed this after wearing them for a day, including running in puddles, so I couldn't exchange them with a clear conscience. When I walk, the toe of the shoe drags on the ground with my gait, but this doesn't happen with other shoes of similar shape and size. The insoles also didn't fit my feet, the arch hurt when worn for a long time, so the insoles were replaced, now it's very comfortable. I really like the rest of the fit. The color is not black but midnight blue, but it also looks good.
The feet stay dry for a long time in light rain, which is also a positive thing.

My biggest criticism is the slippery sole. As soon as the sole is slightly wet, it becomes dangerous on various surfaces.
So I've already grabbed my mouth three times, almost on the bus again.
Stone stairs, laminate floors, etc. are to be avoided for me.
Seriously, I'm not making a fuss and I've been hesitant to rate it since no one else has commented on it yet.
But since it just happened again, I'd rather share my impression, after all it's not meant to be bad, but rather seen as a hint.

Sustainable classic

This is how I imagined the shoe - a sustainable classic! The shoe has a wide cut, not necessarily for narrow feet and can also be worn with thick socks on cold days. I'm looking forward to the "long-term experience" with the rubber sole.
