At Jeckybeng we make sure to develop products that not only last as long as possible, but also reduce the amount of washing required. Because 70% of the ecological footprint is not created during the production of clothing, but at home.
The so-called “Use and Care Footprint” describes the energy used to care and maintain your products. In order to keep this low, the basic rule is: short wash cycles, cold water if possible, less spinning and air drying. In our experience, these settings can remove up to 85% of all dirt and odors. And with wool, just airing it out and brushing it out is basically enough, as it has self-cleaning properties.
We can only give washing recommendations here to keep consumption as low as possible. The implementation is in your hands, because sustainability is a team sport!
What we recommend for our parkas and jackets
About 90% of daily dirt can be easily removed with a brush or damp sponge. If you get more dirty, our products can be washed on a gentle cycle. Please use an appropriate liquid detergent, do not use fabric softener and wash the jacket alone, this reduces mechanical stress.
Washing recommendation
1. Close the zipper
2. Turn jacket inside out
3. Wash on the wool cycle (delicate cycle), alone!
4. Turn the jacket over again and smooth it out well while it is damp
5. Hang dry on hanger
6. Iron at low temperature
What we recommend for our wool products
Merino wool is a real all-rounder because it is able to clean itself and absorb odors without being washed. Airing it out overnight is often enough to put on clean and fresh clothing the next morning. If it does need to be washed, we recommend using wool detergent. Under no circumstances should you use detergents with proteases, as these contain protein-splitting enzymes that can damage the merino wool fiber.

Sustainable waterproofing
Our jackets get their permanently water-repellent properties by treating them with a fluorocarbon-free wax-based impregnation. Drops of water roll off the fabric like drops of water on lotus leaves. And if you do get caught in a long rain shower, it can happen that the moisture penetrates the waterproofing. Then the tightly woven and twisted fibers come into play, which swell on contact with moisture and make the material compact and dense.
For post-impregnation we recommend the PFC-free products from Bionicdry or Tapir. The Tapir company only uses natural ingredients. With a little practice you can also get used to the “Greenland Wax” from Fjällräven.
